Patrick James: Not Typical Pop Jazz Acoustic by Mary Magpie

Patrick James is a unique, gifted artist. I was so surprised when I heard his music that he’s not signed, mega festival touring, and / or getting on the cover of some magazine.

“All My Fault” isn’t the typical pop-jazz-acoustic song. It’s so fun to listen to and shows all the strengths Patrick James has. His voice is unlike any other I’ve heard before, and the lyrics are so ineffibly good. Its stunning to me to compare the unique vocals with the consistant musical accompaniment.

“Sanity” just makes you want to get up and sing. Lyrically, so strong you cant help but wish some ‘signed alt heroes’ arent asking him to pen for them. This song is my favourite of his, and my absolute favourite song right now. It has me coming back to listen to it over and over again. Melodic and sincere.

“Patchwork” is filled with incredible guitar playing and his voice is just icing on the cake. The song is something that you would hear on the radio. Not a normal, heartfelt, boring acoustic song–it keeps you listening until the last second as you soak up each word and guitar chord. Again, I am taken aback at the scope of undiscovered talent. Well, that I just discoverd and you should do the same.

Patrick James is a fantastic musician who will, let’s hope, be the next big thing. His ep “While The World Sleeps” is set to release June 5 was released June 5th, 2009 and is available on Itunes (thanks to Doug Caputo of Patrick’s band for correcting us).  Mark that down.
