Painted Black By Mary Magpie

Upon being myspace friended by metal band, I decided to give A Fate Painted Black a listen. I read a blog entry and learned that their bassist, Mark, had passed away. Most bands would break up, but AFPB stuck together, which is admirable. Worried that they might be your generic metal band(boring and repetative), I reluctantly hit the play button. Now I’m glad I did.
I decided not to go and click on the first song on the playlist. I went for “Untitled (feat. Mark Davis”. The lyrics are heartfelt and reflective, it definitely shows A Fate Painted Black’s soft side. Alone, it’s a soundtrack of rememberance of a loved one and touched me personally, which is difficult for any song to do.
“Dig Up Her Bones”, a cover of the Misfits’ song, is absolutely genius. Probably my favourite cover of any Misfits song because the singer’s voice just adds so much dimension and makes it enjoyable.
“Bipolar” is a really good song that makes me constantly have AFPB’s Myspace up so I can listen to this song on repeat. It’s a 6-minute ride of highs, lows, unbelievable guitar playing and drumming, and breakdowns. There’s so much in the song that you don’t want to miss a second of it.
A Fate Painted Black is definitely not your generic metal band.
