The new 1D, er 2D?

Remember when Big Time Rush played Radio City Music Hall back in 2012? Cmon, you remember, it was only 15 months ago, back when Big Time Rush were huge, though not as big time or rushing as their opening act at Radio City became: that would be One Direction to you, pop pickers.

The last year has been as earth shattering an experience as any one has ever had for One Direction: that sorta world domination is mind boggling and oddly enough the boys in the band haven’t morphed into Justin Bieber (yet). And now they pass it on, with Australian boy band, discovered on YouTube!, opening for One Direction on 1D’s current world tour.

5 Seconds Of Summer are a pop rock band and not a vocal band, unlike the Wanted and 1D, they play guitars as well as goof it up as hotties for pre and teen girls.Luke Hemmings (vocals, guitar), Michael Clifford (guitar, vocals), Calum Hood (bass guitar, vocals) met in high school and began posting videos on YouTube.  Ashton Irwin (drums, vocals) joined later. And they are currently huge in Australian and getting raves with 1D pals on tour in the UK. There as an EP in Australia but no releases Stateside yet.

By the way, with the exception of the “shower of cunts”, 1D are handling it all pretty well. Laughing off jibes from the likes of Noel Gallagher, dumping Taylor Swift when it became obvious she was a romantic basket case and passing right the sophomore slump while rocking MSG very nicely last December.

As for 5 Seconds Of Summer, like 1D they come across as fun guys, not too heavy, and ready for the girls of the worlds acclaim. Unlike 1D they write their own material. Here is a goodie, “Heartbreak Girl” PS: Luke Hemmings is 16 years old.
