Odessa Fest In Chapel Hill April 23rd and April 24th: A Clown Making Animal Balloons And Other Treats…

On Friday April 23rd I am jetting to Chapel Hill, NC (near Raleigh, geography fans) for day one of the two Odessa Fest. I woulda stayed for both only my friend Joe Stenihardt’s band Modern Hut are playing at Mercury Lounge and I wanna see em before Joe leaves us for the wilds of Cornell University.

And tw of my fave bands, Americans In France and Kingsburt Manx, don’t play till Saturday but I will get to see Wesley Wolfe, his album Storage is a fave of 2010, and meet with Paull Finn and some of the other bands he reps. Maybe get introduced some of the bands he has I don’t know.

Here is Paul’s press release about the two night fest:
On April 23rd and 24th of 2010, the first annual Odessa Fest will be held at Night Light in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Tickets are $8 each night or $15 for the weekend. Pre-sale tickets will be available at Night Light and at CD Alley as of April 9th.

The event is being curated by Mike Glass (Fin Fang Foom, Inspector 22) and will feature live sets by the following Odessa acts: The Kingsbury Manx, Inspector 22, Michael Holland, Transportation, Wesley Wolfe, Impossible Arms, Americans in France, WAUMISS, Wild Wild Geese, and Shit Horse.

This event is special in that it corresponds with the one year anniversary of Odessa’s first release, The Kingsbury Manx’s Ascenseur Ouvert, and the tenth anniversary of The Kingsbury Manx’s first album, which was released in 2000 on Overcoat Records.

There will be some cool things in store, such as a reunited five piece Kingsbury Manx playing a retro-spective of the band’s ten year career, highlighting early material.

“Odessaic Arrtctosk Plation” will also be available which is a free download and limited edition hand-made CDR compilation of songs from Odessa bands and their offshoots.

There will be art on display by Odessa artists, a clown making animal balloons, a “take your picture with Shit Horse” booth, DJs, go go dancers, and hopefully, if we can swing it, a Michael Caine impersonator!

Free stuff—downloads, stickers, posters. And also not free stuff—LPS, CDS, t-shirts and alcohol.

Last but not least, we are hoping to have copies of the official Shit Horse cassette available for sale for the first time!

Sincerely,
Paul Finn
