Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds "The Death Of You And Me" Reviewed

So, Noel finally responds, if not in type than in kind. The firsts single from Noel is, unlike brother Liam's somewhat sophomoric beady Eyes subpar Oasisisms, highbrow, clever, clever Britpop. A vaguely vaudevillian effort with echoes of (surprised? not) the Kinks and even the Small Faces in ogden nutty shape.

The song loops in a half waltz and the lead instrument is the horns, which slowly but firmly take over from the guitars during the chorus till they reach an oom pah pah bridge and finally a fade.

It is all very clever clever but as songs go I wonder if he has just shot himself in the foot. It reminds me of, irony of ironies, of Blur circa "Country House" only the lyrics -which are nothing much are much worse, and the tune isn't as catchy.
