rock nyc is relieved to hear that the great Chic guitarist Niles Rodgers is in remission from cancer and on the road. He recently noted on his blog that "Once cancer attacks you it's easy to think that anything you feel out of the ordinary is cancer related. I was knocked on my a$$ today but let's face it, I did a concert yesterday which required five hours of drive time, as well as just returning home from a frenetic Asian trip thirty hours before."
I just took a look at Niles production credits… Like A Virgin, Let's Dance, Notorious… and those are just the headlines.
Chic were the greatest disco band of all time, in the early 1980's they were the sound of modern disco coming of age and integrating itself into New Wave and then into the heart of the mainstream.
We lost Nile's partner in Chic, bassist Bernard Edwards, way too early. The thought of anything happening to the progenitor of the modern dance producer is terrible.
Niles was just in Tokyo and is on his way to Brussels, beggin an answer to the musical question, whither New York???
