New York Magazine offered up their likely contenders for song of the summer. Now let us tell you what we think of their picks. Ps if you are interested in what they had to say, here’s the link… http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/05/song_of_the_summer_the_top_six.html
1. OMG – Usher – Gotta agree with em here even though # 2 has taken over Usher’s spot on Itunes. This is another Will.I.Am start of pop music and year two for something by Will.I.Am ruling the summer charts. Plus it’s fun and you can dance to it.
2. California Gurls (feat. Snoop Dogg) – Katy Perry – This is like Cat Stevens singing “Silent Night”. Not does it beggar the imagination, it also does anything but beggar the imagination: how many times is Timbaland gonna recycle those fucking beats. Timbaland did a much better job with katy earlier this year on “If We Ever Meet Again” -the best song on his lousy album # 2. where was I… WTF… Snoop Dogg steals everything he guests raps on and he steals this crap song -ps, we call that daylight robbery. NO WAY IS THIS THE SONG OF THE SUMMEr. I’ll change seasons, I swear.
3. Alejandro – Lady Gaga – I didn’t even NOTICE this song till she released it as a single… maybe if she could get Mark Ronson to remix it, but no, not even Gaga will pull this one off.
4. Your Love Is My Drug – Ke$ha – I am a HUGE Ke$ha fan and this song is maybe the third best on the great Animal. Can’t wait to see her opening for Rihanna at MSG but… no, not the song of the summer. A little late for one thing.
5. Find Your Love – Drake – this song is such a bore I forgot I owned it.
6. Losing My Mind – Young Jeezy (feat Plies) – Dunno about this one at all. I can’t hear it myself -not even close to being pop enough. I prefer Plies “Look Like” if they wanna pretend they’re gangsta.
