For The Summer – Ray Lamontagne and The Pariah Dogs – Starts like James Taylor’s “Country Road”, detoursinto neil Young circa Harvest and finally curls up its toes and goes to sleep.
Right Above It (feat Drake) – Lil Wayne – This aint much but it least it reminds everybody that Drake can’t rap.
Black Rain – Soundgarden – Watta dreary, wishy washy, drab piece of faded blue fannel shirt. Ugh.
They Can’t Take That Away from Me – Brian Wilson – haven’t I already dissed this once? Whatever, what the hell was he thinking? Wilson has his second childhoody moments show, but what the fuck was he thinking of here?? Doo wop??? Ugh.
Save Time To Dream – John Mellencamp – Pretty toon, but what a vacuous twit.
E.T. – Katy Perry – Another pathetic dance number.
No W (Adrenalamena Mix) – You know what Marilyn Manson was trying to do at the start of his career. He was trying to make a poppy Ministry. Could live without the vocalists but the guitar sound is totally fucked with beyond recognition.
White Lies – Stacy Clark – Pretty but a little vacant.
Yeah Yeah Yeah – New Politics – Those y’s x 3 are a great hook and a great chorus, the halk spoken verses kinda suck.
Hamg With me – Robyn – Oddly enough, this song take about a verse to cook its medicine up, but she hits the bridge like a cool breeze and the chorus is pretty great as one. SONG OF THE WEEK.
If I Was President – Wycliff Jean – The man is a fool, though this is a pretty good calypso with the brain of a peanut. Still, Bob Marley would have noted the influence and not been amused.
Gone Already – Faith Evans – I saw Faith open for Dru Hill at the Beacon a decade. Thought she had one of best voices in the business -better than Mary J. for one. But Diddy didn’t know what to do with her and her material was so fucking lame, and finally she lost all momentum and went into stall. And “Gone Already” faces all the same problems.
Roll Over Beethoven – Jerry Lee Lewis -Ringo on drums, walking STD John Mayer doing a nothing great guitar solo, Jon Brion adding zilch to the production assignment. Still, it’s the Killer…
Rockstars – Raekwon – Not sold on it but the chick singing the verse is very good, I think it is The Countess Adrienne King and she sounds off key in a startling very provocative way.
Wish You Were Here – Hey Monday – The bad news: This is the third song with this name I’ve heard and it is the worst. The good news: the other two were by Pink Floyd and Ryan Adams and kinda tough to follow. The bad news: this doesn’t come close. The good news: it’s ok in a bland pop rock Paramorey way, if you like Paramore. The bad news: I don’t like Paramore.
