Long haired and bearded Thom Yorke performed an acoustic version of a new Radiohead song ‘Give Up the Ghost’ at the Big Chill Festival last Friday. It was not the first time he was playing it, but this is the first time I listen to it.
It’s difficult to form an opinion about this song, with so little orchestration, and just the vocal loops played behind his whining voice, compared to what could be a full band version. It is just so minimalist and simplistic, with a repetitive theme and without a real dynamism in the song. Let’s say I was not very impressed.
But try to imagine any song of ‘In Rainbows’ as nude as this one… so everything could change with the studio version.
