I don't have high hopes for this album and the reason is, McCartney was always much better at early rock and roll than mid-season American songbook. Does the thought of Macca covering Fats Waller thrill you? Me neither. All these years later, Sir Paul still can suffer from a case of the cutes, as the naff name of this album attests.
The good news is Diana Krall is co-producer and ten years ago at least, her love of the Nat King Cole Trio bestowed upon her the gift of self-control. Her music, her trio, like her long gone psychological mentor, alows the music to breathe.
So, I am ambivalent veering into worried about this album. I am not expecting Run Devil Run in the best of scenarios, I just hope I don't Back In The USSR.
