Don’t You – I Fight Dragons – Atlantic Records recording artists… no, honest. I know they look like a Mary Magpie type band and they sound like a Magpie type pop band and they use… er, Nintendo Play stations to make their muic. And they’re really good if you like that old time chewy pop-rock sound so often used by boy power-pop bands with verbs in their name.
Happy Ending Story – Hole A good song off a tryly lousy album. How bad is it? Using our pateneted NY Post Dan Aquilante test: he gave Nobody’s Daughter three and a half stars yesterday!! This one turns down the sudsyness a touch and doesn’t want me want to hide under the bed of my NEW APARTMENT. By the time you read this I will be back from watching my girl Courtney at Terminal 5. Helen was shocked but here’s my math. I’ve seen Hole twice. Theyw re great both times. If they suck I’ve got a post, if they don’t I’ve got a better post.
No Surprises – Regina Spektor – For a charity albu, this is the corralory to a “you can do anything to a great song and it remains a great song” axiom. A great song can take an OK (computer) song song and turn it into a great song. Regina’s take on the paranoid brings warmth to alienation.
Rumba Y Candela – Daddy Yankee – From his new album Mundial, this song is one of the man’s greatest. All hard beats and Spanish rhythms to a pulsating dance move and while hip hop influences the production , I still can’t heard the reggae. SONG OF THE WEEK
Gitana – Shakira – I prefer Shakira in Spanish for the most part and with the exception this oddly folkie Shakira (stepping back a clean five years soundwise) is better than anything on last years attempt to maintain her position as the Princess of Spanish pop.
Dancin’ For Me (feat Flo rida) – J. Lewis – I’m a fool for Flo Rida and while this is as generic a piece of modern pop as you are ever likely to hear that isn’t really terrible is it? It’s like being atracted to a real bitch of a real hot of a girl. You know you shouldn’t want her so bad but you can’t help but tumble. Plus, Flo Rida’s rap is a masterclass in pop flow,
It Must Be Me – Game And Pharell – What happened to Game and Pharrell? Remember when these guys were the shit? They ain’t here, this is old fashioned gangsta with possibly the worst chorus known to man. Here those cartwheels? That’s Biggie reacting to this lazy rip off.
