New Music w/o August 23rd, 2010: Poppy, Shiny, Very Good by Iman Lababedi

Pearl – Katy Perry – This is like staring into the abyss and seeing nothing but nothingness: it is so pitch black it is like being blind; this is what it must be like being a Celine Dion fan. Next time anybody has the effrontery to compare Perry to Lady Gaga play em this dross.

Hot Tottie (feat Jay-Z) – Usher – Dunno who is tweaking the 127s but this is pretty awesome: it moves like a hip shake, Usher’s verses are first rate and Jay-Z’s choruses are his best this year.

Spectacular Girl – Beck like ballad, particularly the vocals and the drenched out paled in musical landscaping.

If It Wasn’t For Bad – Elton John and Leon Russell – The road to hell is paved with good intentions and believe me? This is hellish piano based over played, over produced clap trap by a 1) self-important egotist and 2) a giften has been. If Leon needs the bread he makes it but otherwise I never wanna hear it again.

Two Different Worlds – Afrobeta – Pretty good electrobeats from Miami where they know a thing or two about partying. And this does too: very poppy, very shiny, very good.

Sufjan Steven – Enchanting Ghost – First song I’ve ever heard by this legendary indie figure. And lovely as hell with a somewhat stunning voice that can go real high pitched on the last words of lines.

Come Undone – Isobel Campbell And Mark lanegan – Sounds like “Don’t Make Me Over” before degenerating into the Last Shadow Puppets.

This Is The Tide- The Dandy Warhols – You know how I said Spoon were a perennial opening band? Dandy Warhol are on firstat 730p.

I Love You More Than You Will Ever Know – Never Shout Never – Ugh. Gives puppy love a bad name.

Playing The Part – Jamey Johnson – Ugh. Great voice, crap song, shave off the fucking beard.

Fidelity – JP, Chrissie And The Fairground – The opening verse of this song is just the sexiest thing you will ever heard ever. I don’t care what Chrissie or JP says, this song ooozes sexuality: mature, aggressive, passionate. The lalas are love, are Hynde still has one of the great rock and roll voices. SONG OF THE WEEK.

Friend Of The Night – Mogwai – It’s the Scottish lads decided to write an experimental instrumental and then changed their mind off way through -which is a good thing.

I Don’t Wanna Dance – Hey Monday – Next

Night by Night – Chromeo – Of the dance rock bands that have been this year such a blast, I would put these guys behind Holy Ghost, ahead of Hot Chips. The new album will be here next month.
