New Music Week Of November 8th, 2010: Nope, It’s Not A Joke -by Iman Lababedi

Bring The Light – Beady Eye – The Stones? The Beatles? Nah, more like pub rock. The Darts, MAYBE, Dr. Feelgood.

Blue Suede Shoes – Elvis Presley – Soundtrack of that tour where they brought out a live band to play in front of a filmed Presley. Worse than you can possibly imagine. This is so terrible it is a must hear and since it is free on itunes I recommend you do hear it. It really… I just can’t express how horrifying the harp solo is, I can’t explain the desecration that occurs on Presley’s terribly remixed vocals. You must hear it.

Pretty Girl Rock – Keri Hilson – PS another freebie but this is really good with Keri sing rapping her way to the bridge.

Make A Movie – Twista – If doesn’t flow, he flies. The problem with novelties is that, by definition, they are only novel the first time.

Rainbow In The Dark – Dio – Yeah, he died. Bummer. Just like this metal screetcher.

The Time (Dirty Bit) – Black Eyed Peas – As in “I had” the time “of my life and I owe it all to you.” Meh.

P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) (feat T.Pain and Robin Thicke) – Quincy Jones – You know why T. Pain is like Snoop? Nope, it isn’t a joke, I’m being serious. Because they both are so distinctive they own every song they appear on. This is superb, by the way . If any song can be remixed and re-recorded forever, it is this awesomely bottomed whomper. And who better than one of the men behind the original. TRACK OF THE WEEK.

Paper Lung – Underoath – A Bach band I am warming up to. If I had gotten round to writing this post yesterday Idda dismissed em out of hand as POV wannabes, but there is something symphonic in the way their metal moves so far down and then across and then up.

What If – Jason Derulo – Not bad but it only hits if the girls who have been throwing him up the charts because they really, really like him. It doesn’t stand alone.
