Natural Selection (feat the Black Angels – UNKLE – Those weird trip hop boys I remember from, wow, from the Suburbia soundtrack, have concocted a great slice of 80s dance rock replete with heavy accented (english accent but nevertheless…) like Bowie doing a spritely scary monsters.
Treats – Sleigh Bell – The title track off their terrific first album revs up like a toyota before throwing in some metal riffs and letting the chick loose. Not “tell ‘Em” but it’ll do.
I Like It (feat Pitbull) – Enrique Iglesias – It must be Pitbull because Iglesias can get a bit mundane when he goes pop or loverboy. This is a nice groover Nsync coulda called their own back in the day. Pitbull is like a seal of approval nowadays, whether with his Spanish posse or blowing in on reggeaton or hitting up what should be a big, big club hit.
California Gurls (Feat Snoop Dogg) – Katy Perry – Who produced this? Timbaland? Why the hell is Snoop on it? Perry’s big single of the upcoming album, her big, I’ve finished diddling Brand and being dissed by Damon and I am in still in the game… and this is what she comes up with??? So she can say Miley Cyrus out performed her? There is no here here, she forgot the song. It’s so tweaked and doctored
Say My Name – Holy Ghost! – This song is fucking hot… I keep on expecting Tavares to take it over…. And it’s like Chic never happened! Like this glorious bass (sample? I feel as if I should know it) and synths tweaking in search of a strobe light. SONG OF THE WEEK.
The Diference Between Us – The Dead Weather – There must be a reason this is the only Jack White band I can stomach and I think I know why. It’s because the Kills’ Alison Mossheart is a great singer, the best this side of Karen O. Alison pulverizes this standard issue blues rocker into a whole other place.
If I can’t Have You – Meat Loaf – Dan Aquilante went out of his way to claim this sucked so guess what? It’s a fabulous slab of soap sudsy over the edge out of its mind power rock ballad. I bought another off Hang Cool Teddy Bear and loved that one as well.
Pyramid (feat Iyaz) – Charice – Iyaz reminds me of Sean Kingston (no leap, Kingstons name checked on Wikipedia. Charice is eighteen, from the Phillipines, and has had one of those lives. Pretty good pipes in an IDOLy way. If the song was half way decent it would be quite alright.
Sorrow – The National – I guess that song earlier this month was a fluke. This one is a drag.
Swoon (Radio Edit) – The Chemical Brothers – Not bad but kinda old fashioned… half expect Noel Gallagher to show up.
