There Goes My Baby – Usher – There is a song everybody is raving about, Usher and Nicki Minaj’s “Little Freak”, but I can’t find it anywhere so tell then let me pay my respect to this classic soul groove which seems to be tapping into its inner Babyface. When I saw Usher covering a an MJ song while opening for Mary J. I thought he was the pretender to the thrown, but his writing has always lacked crossover appeal. Singing with Justin Birber at Jingle Ball late last year nobody had the slightest idea who Usher was. Round our way we know who he is and this is a very strong soul number. Track Of The Week.
Up Out My Face – Mariah Carey feat Nicki Minaj – Mariah lost a lotta brownie points at Rock NYC with a bore of an album followed by a deeply eccentric New Year’s Eve performance. But this piece of modern dance hip hop is pretty good and a little by rote. If it hits it could be addictive
Doomsday Device – Drop The Lime – The device in question is some sort of machine that shreds you ears or is it the tik-tok rhythm like a clapper turning on and off? Much more usefu as dance than Drop The Lime’s recent “Set Me Free” nut “Set Me free” was an attempt to change the rules of electronica and “Doomsdays Device” is there to get the job done -both attempts were succesful.
Peace And Love – Juliana Hatfield – This is the second song I’ve bought off the same titled album. And both of them have been acoustic rock ballads, almost deprecating in their easygoingness. After all these years, Hatfield seems to have lost her insecurity only to replace it with a swell of joy. Good for her.
Why You Going Outside Like That – The Don – Laura Nyro’s son apparently and while the rough cut of his album needs to up his production quite a bit, this song, has an addictive, irritating hook that could be made into a hit if LMFAO remixed it.
