Circle The Drain – Katy Perry – Well now, another dog off the album. This is the one about her ex Travis McCoy. She lays into him and it doesn’t sound good at all. Adraining, dreary fairly lousy put down.
O, Katrina – The Black Lips – The Black Lips are to the Wavves what the Stones were to the Beatles. Or in other words, this song off the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack is almost, but not quite, blues punk, a three chord blast of fresh sounds. I plan to check em out very soon. SONG OF THE WEEK
Big Wave – Jenny And Johnny – Some folks aren’t built for long term careers and really since More Adventurous that has been my impression of Jenny Lewis. This is another piece of ho hum indie rock. It clangs the way it is meant to the melody isn’t there to carry it.
Rhythm Of Love – Plain White T’s – PWT don’t know what to do. If, four years on, they don’t do this “Hey, Delilah” antecedent, their career is over. If they do? Their career is over.
She Said Yeah – The Rolling Stones – Why did I buy this again? Great song but I already own it. Remastered and I think if i listen very careful the guitar sounds clearer. What a senseless waste of my money.
Bottoms Up (feat Nicki Minaj) – Trey Songz – You know my feelings about Trey, right? But I can take him in dance mode and Nicki’s flow here has to be heard to be believed.
My Best Theory – Jimmy Eat World – The living, breathing definition of rock ordinaire.
Revelation, Revolution, Evolution – Lee “Scratch” Perry – Weirdly, very heavy dub interation with chick back up singers “yea yea” behind him. The bizarre and brilliant rastaman should scare off all but the diehards.
