After two weeks of deadly silence on the music scene, the week of January 12th is the starting gate of the 2010. It is ruled by Contra of course but Contra wasn’t the only releaseā¦
I Get It In (feat. Gucci Mane) – Omarion – A refugee from R&B boy band B2K, Omarion is yet another R&B working a hip hop production. This is from his third album and features a pretty good mane rap which is why I like it in one sentence or less.
It’s Just That Way – Alan Jackson – The ever prolific country giant Jackson follows up 2009’s okay nothing special Good Times with this brand new ok, pretty enough ballad to start off a new decade. Jackson can’t write a bad song but he can’t write a cookie cutter song.
Modern Man – The Watson Twins – Indie it sez here, but really, it is so laid back it is almost ambient. I don’t wanna slander em or anything but they sure sound a lot like Natalie Merchant at her tweeist.
Soldier Of Love – Sade – I wrote about this yesterday. The distance between the military beat and Sade’s cool heat vocals couldn’t be wider.
Found My Swag (feat. New Boyz) – The Bangz – New Boyz are the kids behind last year’s novelty hit “You’re A jerk” and the Bangz steal NBz customory wiseacreness and add a lovely chorus and equally snotty rap. Gotta love it.
Love This Pain – Lady Antebellum – Song two off the newbie and they channel their inner eagles with an upbeat country rocker. Two for two by my reckoning.
This Is The New Year (feat. – Chad Vaccarino) – Ian Axel – A bit of a mess of a sensitive singer songwriter over emoting blah blah that shakes itself out of the doldrums near the end. Imagine BON Ivers woke up in the middle of a winters night. Turned on the stove, looked out into the snowy expansive of nothing and felt quite alright for a change.
Shattered (Live Acoustic version) – O.A.R. – Maybe I’m not in the mood for music today. This sounds like the Fray. Actually everybody here, even Gucci Mane, sounds like the Fray.
