New Music For An Old Year Thursday New Year’s Eve: Get Hypnotized…

Drop The World (feat. Eminem) – Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne’s best official release of the year (No Ceiling is a mixtape)  is a vicious little piece of horrorshow: it’s like a bad trip and Eminem, in a devil fork of a fucking rap, rips its lungs out. Wayne is apoplectic and the chorus is angry and nasty shit. Happy fucking New year. Single Of The week

21 guns – Glee
90% of the time Glee are the perfect reason for a death penalty, 5% of the time they fulfil a promise they hadn’t bothered making and the rest of the time they release baffling stuff like this where they turn Green Day into power pop. Recommended to Celine Dion.

Ain’t Nothing Like You (feat. Jim Jones and Mos Def) – BlacRoc
Two for two for the Black Keys boys. It is such a great idea you wonder why Jack White hasn’t beaten em to it. Blues plus rap -a marriage made in the depths of hell where Robert Johnson roams. Dark and sexy…

Bedrock – Young Money and Lloyd Banks
Lil Waynes protegees. Pretty good, kinda funny, “Call me Mr. Flintstone, I can make your bedrocK”. The chick, Shanee, is gonna be big, big time. Gudda Gudda and Drake are on the same label – I guess it’s a relation to Cash Money. This song should drop bang at the top of the downloads any day now. They’re playing Jones beach, August 1st. A Sunday. Gee, thanks guys.

Morning After Dark (feat. Nelly Furtado and SoShy) – Timbaland
Nelly pays back for “Promiscuous Girl”. Like the rest of Shock Treatment II, this song is so busy you don’t know where to rest your ears but at least he leaves Nelly front and center where she belongs. I can’t figure out the backing track -I wish I had better ears: drums, drum machine, synth, strings: that’s the easy stuff, but what are they glooping over and on when SoShy takes over on the chorus. And why do the drums and this tinny synth seem to be synched. And what is it with all the weird fucking endings Timbaland is sticking on this album? It’s like he is compulsively adding stuff because he knows it will sound great whatever you choose to glom on to.

Symphonies – Dan Black
Electronica UK style. It’s ike brit pop but not like a Brit pop, like brit with synth. And it is good though his voice is a touch weedy. Black can take a while to reach your pleasure zone: try this url cover of Biggie’s Hypnotize “HYPTNZ” , it’s awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7JXjcW9xjs
