Yesterday I reviewed the soundtrack album to New Moon and alone among my many, many peers, said it was a dour compiliation that missed its target demo by a mile.
Today comes news that it sold a big yawn 115,000 copies. If this is the state of the art of rock, the state of the art of rock is dead on its feet.
Look at it this way: you can buy Michael Buble’s Crazy Love song by song and except for three tracks have to buy the entire New Moon album -which forces you to buy the album and therfore should improve sales. And Crazy Love is in its second week or release. And Buble still outsold the undead by 88,000 copies.
New Moon disrespects its audience by assuming that a certain indie alt sound is by definition superior to a more mainstream pop and rock. It isn’t. Sometimes even the best of bands simply suck.
