Nevershoutnever took the stage mid day at Warped Hartford to a screaming shrill of teenage girls.
I mean shrill
I have neverbeenafannever, but know what.. I could be.
I absolutely can see his appeal now. Mind you this is the third time I have seen him perform. For the first time, Ingle looked comfortable.
He wasnt putting on a show. He wasnt using that false humble he exhibited at the MTVU shows of last summer.
He didnt have the ‘I got laid’ bravado he showed at the Jingle My Bells tour.
He was a young man who seems…
comfortable.
There is nothing that annoys me more than a poser. I can spot them a mile away and I will go out of my way to fuck with them, its a sport. I felt NSN was a poser. Teetering on the brink of dellusional.
I saw his performance BEFORE the interview so my perspective here is based soley on his showmanship.
He doesnt have much. But interestingly enough, he doesnt need it.
Yes, the girls sing along in that scream falsetto. It makes my ears bleed. But rather than ‘awww shucks’-ing the crowd he owned it. Smiled and almost encouraged it.
Musically on point. Vocally, well still that high pitch yodelly thing.. but the casual approach and the almost unplugged atmosphere (right down to bare feet) just felt right.
I found myself humming one of his songs today. It frightend me. Im not a fan.
But for the record, nevershoutnever is in a state of evolultion. Personally, perhaps confused as you will see from Marys interview, but professionally.. Christofer Drew Ingle knows exactly what hes doing.
And I’m someone surprised to admit that I like it.
‘Old’ favorites added to ‘new’ songs made his set interesting and solid. I’d heard it all before, but for some reason this time. I actually listened.
And it was good, very good.
Now if his fans would just shut up so we can really hear him…
