Nessing Isn’t The Only One Who Can Shuffle His Ipod!!!

The next three sets I will be seeing  (unless I can find a ticket around the buck fifty range for Ladty Gaga at Radio City since she canxd the Connecticut date today, tix are going for three and a half on Fanscape and I don’t trust craigslist) will be in this order:
Titus Andronicus
Vampire Weekend
Charlotte Gainsbourg
So I stole one of my buddy Mike Nessing’s ideas, stuck all three artists on a playlist on my Itunes and hit shuffle. Here we go then:

5: 55 – CG – Off her debut album, and in English (wooo hooo), strongs in the background by the half way mark, and a sweet melody which she seems to surround without quite nailing.

No Future Part Two: The Days After No Future – TA – I was funning with the boys before their ill fated Whitney Museum gig when they were trying to figure some slightly less raucous songs. The guitarist recommended this one. Note: if you play plugged in acoustic guitars full blast IT’S STILL VERY LOUD!

California English – VE – Note to rock crits and VE: adding calypso rhythms don’t make you Dance Hall. Love the sring break though.

Campus (Live) – VE – This is from the KROC acoustic smas album. The thing is, there is very little difference between acoustic and electric VE that I can here. Having said that this is an energized take that segues into “Oxford Comma”. Two perfect songs switch on a beat.

Run – VE – This is about as close as VE get to average on Contra and it isn’t average at all: it’s all above the vocal pun at the word in question

Heaven Can Wait  (Nosa) Thing Remix) – CG – I prefer this remix to the original because I love the chugga chugga rhythm that sounds like doctored maracas, which holds the rhythm.

Waking Up Drunk – TA – This is the 100th time I have played it on my home pc. Prolly another hundnred elsewhere. And about 100 of Spider Bags original. Plus Paul Finn -Odessa records head honcho and co-writer of this brilliant song, emailed me to thank me for my review. Plus, let’s be honest,  they’re living my love life.

Titus Andronicus – TA  – “Fuck everything, fuck me…” This punk rock song simply can’t be any better. One of the highlights of my concertgoing life was watching em play this at Bowery Ballroom nearly a year ago. PS; Marie Lynn and I are going to see em on March 6th at Bowery Ballroom and like she texted me when we got the tix: there isn’t anything I don’t love about these guys.

I Stand Corrected – VW – The reason the second album is better than the first album is because the second album doesn’t have stuff like this or “Blake Has A New Face”.

Fear And Loathing In Mahwah, NJ – TA – The daytrotter version sounds like a cover of  Carl Story’s “You Can’t Love God (If You Don’t Love Your Neighbour)”. I love TA and I still consider that the biggest compliment I’ve ever given them
