1. Luxury – The Rolling Stones – Before you sneer too hard at the bands from greatness, remember that Jagger was 31 years old when this calypso chirp was released and had already front the greatest rock and roll band for over a decade.

2. Rock N roll – David Bowie – Six months before Jagger got the essence of his abilities wrong, Jagger's friend and lover showed him how it was done. Rochards revelled in "It's Only Rock And Roll" as one of those statements that seems to come from the Gods, but the best the Glimmer twins could muster was "but I like". Bowie went with "I've found the door that let's me out" -a much closer truth. Bowie would never ever rock as hard as the Stones, but in the 1970's would express rock and roll in deeper hues than the Stones would.

3. So Far – The Feelies – This is the song where the Feelies move clearer into the sound that made them finest. It sounds like a Lou Reed in ballad mode real early early in his career with Glenn sounding older and less distracted.

4. Future Crimes – Wild Flag – Actually, these guys remind me of early feelies more than the Feelies do. They have the air of distracted concetnration (if you see what I mean) so much a hallmark of the Feelies. Live, Wild Flag blow the place up.

5. Doors Of Your Heart – The English Beat

6. New Faces – The Rolling Stones – Listening to Voodoo Lounge the other day, I was impressed by this Jagger ballad-a fragile early  take on "Old Habits (Die Hard)" if cat Stevens had written it.

7. I Just Might – Dolly Parton

8. 1+1 – Beyonce –

9. Hot Fun Summertime – Sly And the Family Stone and Bootsy Collins

10. Castle Made Of Sand  – Pitbull
