1. Toothbrush – Brad Paisley – Here is where we start in on diminishing returns with the charming but lightweight Paisley. yeah, he plays a good guitar but then what? This one tells a little happily story of a first date, spraying cologne and brushing your teeth to a truly nauseating line about "you take his little feet and put em up on the stool by the bathroom seat…" Aww, their son has his own toothbrush. Not a terrible song, the bridge "anything that's anything starts with a little thing" isn't as clever as it seems to be, MOR Brad Country but a little milk curdling in its preciousness.
2. When I Paint My Masterpiece (Live) – Bob Dylan – This is off The Band's Rock Of Ages, and Rolling Stone claim it is the best version out. Translation: it is the worst version imaginable.
3. Dr. Wu – Minutemen – When people say they were jazzy, they mean this Steely Dan cover where they jettison the melody completely.
4. I Love You This Big – Scotty McCreary – The American Idol 2011 winner looks like Clay Aiken and sings like George Strait if Strait didn't have an ounce of talent. Awful.
5. 1 + 1 – Beyonce – Did R. Kelly write this? I doubt it was Beyonce… Anybody know? It sounds like Kelly but ever since he left the stage midset at MSG and Jigga was forced to finish it alone (I was there, both performers sucked that night) I kinda doubt it. Whatever, an excellent song. I'll take it over "Halo" any day.
6. Axel Rose – Art Brut – The English bad is back to ab-normal on this sing speak Fall-y plus melody satire on the pleasures of Axel. Great guitar, a satire in itself.
7. Kiss And Say Goodbye (974 Version) – Kate And Anna McGarrigle – Just piano but it doesn't need any more.
8. Brighter Than the Sun – Colbie Caillat – The follow up to song of the year "I Do" is a reggae cum calypso rhythm of pure melodic joy; the woman is such pleasant company. She really is a talent. . Still, not as good as the song of the year.
9. Highway Unicorn (Road To Love) – Lady Gaga – Another greats song off the new album: this is a kitchen sink heavy hitting disco maelstrom and it works for me.
10.She (feat Frank Ocean) – Tyler The Creator – Part Ninja fantasy, part love song. And that chorus!
