My Fave Tracks, Monday, April 25th, 2011

1. You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) – Sylvester – A disco dynamite with a hard dance bottom right outta Paradise Garage, drum machines, layered on drums, synth ripples and a thud that moves you. Plus Sylvester, who could really sing, a soprano? a falsetto? Whatever he wanted. Lives forever as a sample, unbeatable in its pristine state.

2. One Of Your Tears – Prince – From the excellent Crystal Ball, Prince's last flat out masterpiece back in 1987. When people rave about his current stuff? It only proves what asskissing know nothings they are.

3. I'm Not A Girl, Not yet A Woman – Britney Spears – Off the Britney album, a pretty ballad and, hey, it is true of so many of us isn't it.

4. What Would I Want? Sky – Animal Collective – That doesn't mean a damn thing. It should be "The sky" right? After a coupla minutes of soundscaping it settles into a pretty alternative tune.

5. Mustaa Lunta – Fucked Up – Sorta embryonic post-hardcore

6. The Great Curve – Talking Heads

7. You're Still Standing There – Steve Earle – That's Lucinda Williams stealing the song.

8. Run The World (Girls) – Beyonce – This is the mainstreaming of M.I.A., this is the modern dance. An awesome beat by the way -from a dubsteppy stutter to marshall beats and how fucking doctored is that vocal: it sounds like an army of superbot Beyonces.

9. Heart Shaped Box – Nirvana – Hey… wait…

10. . Unorthodox – Tribute Mega Stars – Who are these guys? They seem to record covers of limey dance hits and hit the US before the originals do. This is a "tribute" to Wretch 32's current hit (the one that samples the Stone Roses). Sounds alright to me.
