My Fave Tracks, July 2009

1. Waking Up Drunk – Titus Andronicus – Ground zero for rock nyc (though not for me), this daytrotter session dates from September 2008, and features two of my fave bands (it's a Spiderbags cover) and was co-written by one of my fave people, Paull Finn. And it's free. So if you don't know it, downloaded right now.

2. Oh My God – Kaiser Chiefs – Sure, Lilly's version killed it. But, hey, this is the original brit rockin' one.

3. Here Comes Your Man – Meaghan Smith – Terrific cover of the Pixie classic off a real good movie as well "(500) Days Of Summer".

4. Peacemaker – Green Day – They should have absolutely included this in American Idiot: "call me an assas/in/be a gas" – a Jewish hoedow down meets a gypsy rock band.

5. Say Please – Monsters Of Folk – Just about all of Conor's songs with Monsters Of Folk was excellent, but this is a perfect folk rock that put Ward and Yames to shame.

6. She Wolf – Shakira – A howling good song.

7. History Sticks To Your Feet – Modest Mouse – A band who are too experimental for my taste but not on this obscureish B-Sideish groove thang.

8. The One – Mary J. Blige and Drake – Not only did this not hit as well as it should have but Drake sucked hard and nearly ruined it.

9. Shots – LMFAO and Lil Jon – This is the sort of wildness not on their new album.

10. Tenessee Jed – Levon Helm – The Dead meets the half dead. Pretty alive.
