Wait a second, isn’t Justin Timberlake a star of “Inside Llweyn Davis” the upcoming Coen brothers take in the early1960s LES folk scene? I could have sworn he was. So why isn’t he spending a Sunday evening, September 29th at The Town hall for a benefit called “Another Time, Another Place” starring the cast and friends of the movie?
Good question, right? And worth complaining about till you see who will be there: “Jack White, Patti Smith, Colin Meloy (The Decemberists), Conor Oberst, Joan Baez, Marcus Mumford, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Punch Brothers, Avett Brothers, Milk Carton Kids, Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops)”
Not to mention Marcus’ wife, Carey Mulligan, who also stars in the movie. the movie reads pretty good on paper but the fear is nearly exactly where you imagine it to be. If they cover old folk songs well then so what and if they are writing new songs in the style of old songs, what are the chane of them being any good?
However, the line up is pretty damn impressive right? I have’t seen Conor this year and I am interested in seeing what he brings even if it’s only for one song.
National recording Preservation Foundation? They will be getting some of the bucks apparently and as for me? I got lucky and picked up a tix and since I know my folk fairly well will be happy to tell you all about it!
