Must See: Laura Jane Grace At Bowery Ballroom

Yes, but does it rock?

When last seen, Laura Jane Grace was introducing Joan Jett on stage at T5  to cover a ‘Mats song “Androgyny 14 months ago with his band, is that former band? Against Me. It was a great set and as I wrote at the time: “It’s a thrilling sight and the rest of her band give the song a muscular tug, visually the foursome are a blast.”

But within the months both Against Me drummer Jay Weinberg and bassist Andrew Seward had hit the road and Laura and guitarist are soldiering on with the eagerly anticipated Transgender Dystopia Blues album, meant to be released this year but I guess everything has been a little chaotic. Instead we got the True Trans EP -an epic acoustic workout which upset some fans and I can see why, if ever Laura should have roared this was it. It isn’t bad mind, just not great.

The Florida band was a mixed bag which I only grew to really enjoy after Laura came out but whose live show was pretty damn remarkable and so we have waited for months for the next move and here it is. Laura is playing under her own name at  the Bowery Ballroom on August 16th, 2013 and it should be a  power rocking world with a tattooed love girl of six foot plus.

But with a new rhythm section? I don’t know man, I guess, maybe it will be great. t is hard to guess but what I’ve heard of the EP was pretty acoustic with a strong vocal. I’ll still be there, mind.
