When the greater, intensely witty, melodic and smart singer songwriter PERSONALLY invites you (and all his other friends on Facebook) to watch his quintet perform Tuesday, November 13th, 2012, you ignore his wishes at your own peril.
here is what the invite reads: "A few tickets remain. Check link below. Last public East Coast appearance for the Quintet in 2012! It was 20 years to the day, when Tin Angel opened it's doors and hosted an evening with Ben (along with Mike Vogelmann) on their opening night. Today, The Ben Vaughn Quintet celebrates this significant milestone"
Not to be mistaken with the dreaded Ben Folds, Vaughn wrote Marshall Crenshaw's masterpiece "I'm Sorry (But So Is Brenda Lee)". He is more like a rockabilly Randy Newman with a wicked sense of humor and a taste for country, and Ramblers. He has a weekly radio show on NPR and he can be listened to for hours with nothing but pleasure. If you have Spotify try the triple Vaughn Sings Vaughn.
And if you are in Philadelphia definitely take the opportunity to give the man his props (he lives on the West Coast now, so it might be awhile before we see him). and celebrate Tin Angels 20th anniversary. Don't let him leave the stage without performing "Clothes Don't Make The Man"
