Album of the year so far is undoubtedly Voyageur. The Pitchfork 6.4 review should have been the giveaway but it wasn't. It took another week of returning to the album over and over again for me to finally click in deep. Right now it is my # 1 album of the year, with Lamb of God and Cloud Nothings circling the wagons.
I loved Asking For Flowers a couple of years ago, but I think I prefer this one. I disagree with the take that Justin Vernon kinda fucked it up, I disagree with my own take, that his production is too fidgety, that it keeps biting its fingernails. The more I listen to it, the deeper it goes, and with a song I know for sure will be high on my best of 2012 anchoring it, I am really obsessing over it,
So, undoubtedly I will be buying a tix for Kathleen Edwards at Webster Hall on April 28th. I need to catch her live to really decide and tix go on sale Friday at noon. Incidentally, Florence + The Machine goes on sale on Friday at 9am… a busy day. Again. Pulp goes on sale the same day!
