Must See: Aaron Neville In May 2013

Keith Richards co-produced Aaron Neville's new album, My True Story and the reviews were mixed though not by me. Neville, the New Orleans native who famously sang with Linda Ronstadt on the awesome Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind 1989, as well as playing with his brothers, hitting up the charts any number of times.

Just back to the album, I did like it. It is a collection of late 1950s rock and roll covers, and it is quite good, I am really looking forward to seeing it live, but it is a little bland. A solid but unexceptional effort with some real highlights, "Money Honey" for one. Aaron namechecks the original not Presley in his commentary.

Still, Aaron has been on my musts see list for a long long time and I am very exciting to get the opportunity on Thursday May 30th, 2013. I am expecting a really great band (Greg Leisz on guitar, Benmont Tench – Petty’s Heartbreakers on organ, Tony Scherr on bass, and George Receli -of Dylan’s band on drums) though I doubt Keith will make it here.

Still, if you can't make it to this you are giving up on hearing one of the most beautiful voices, and 72 year old Neville deserves to be seen before his powers startdeteriorating. I was not talking to a guy who went to see BB King last year and the great blues singer was a sorry sight. At some point it is over. And it is so sad to see. Chuck Berry is kinda lucky, he has sucked for the past 40 years so nobody notices…

72 is absolutely the new 62 so the great has years left in him yet till, now is a good time to listen in, especially at a room as good as Town Hall.
