Muse Out Of Their Minds… Or Someplace Like That -by Alyson Camus

Pompous space rock band Muse seem to take themselves very seriously, and with song titles like ‘Space Dementia’, ‘Starlight’, ‘Supermassive Black Hole’, ‘Shrinking Universe’ and even an album entitled ‘Black Holes and Revelations’, it was something to expect: they want to be the first band to play in space.

Bellamy is even thinking to talk with Virgin Branson to see if they could travel on his Virgin Galactic rocket plane, which is supposed to take rich people into space in the next decade. And they have to be rich since the price of the weightless experience will cost about $200,000.

The story was reported in Spinner.com, which got it from an interviewed of Bellamy by The Sun:

‘We’ve had some discussions about playing in space. Sometimes very coherent conversations and sometimes very late at night, but it’s for real…’
‘I’m thinking of approaching Richard Branson to see if we could do it on his spacecraft he’s got happening.’
‘Although we do have a lot of equipment, so I guess we’d have to use pods to carry our stuff and we’d scale back the shows a lot…’
‘I don’t think the spacecraft is like a Tardis, where we could get everything in we usually have. I do think it will be possible in the future and I’m sure it will happen in my lifetime. We’d love to be part of that…’
‘Maybe I’ve seen The Jetsons too many times.’

Yeah, may be… They always have been about the grandiose and the over-the-top operatic production, but this time it is pure Megalomania.
