Vampire Weekend’s Modern Vampires Of The City is overrated and I love the album. Katy Perry’s Prism is overrated and I don’t like the album but neither are quite as overrated as these three, VW is better, KP is worse, but these three most overrated albums of the year are off the charts…
Days Are Gone – Haim – Three cute sisters, Jewish Cali Queens playing handmedown Fleetwood Mac with a taste for blues. It’s OK, but I saw em open for Mumford And Sons and was far from sold I must say. Over the course of their debut album they have “The Wire” and… nope that’s it. Only “The Wire”.
Night Time, My Time – Sky Ferreira – Off the charts lousy on stage, one of the worst shows I’ve seen by an up and coming act when she opened for Vampire Weekend, getting arrested for possession would have given credibility to many act but Sky is such a spoiled brat. The album wasn’t terrible, a little preprogrammed for a woman who is making such a fuss about being different (Samantha Urbani is different) and maybe three killer songs in the lot.
Pure Heroine – Lorde – I remember loving Lorde’s “Tennis Court” some three months before Pure Heroine was released ; I’d heard the sound before, that moody beats stuff is all over the place, but her voice had a smoky but it is all a little somber and blue and drags over time “Royals” I couldn’t hear at first and now I get that first line on the chorus is very sticky, the album is still a bore.
