Morphine immediately established a minimalist, low-end sound that could have easily become a gimmick: a ‘power trio’ not built around the sound of an electric guitar. Instead, with sly intelligence, Morphine expanded its offbeat vocabulary on each album. – Greg Kot, Trouser Press”
Morphine were a bunch of hipsters from Cambridge MA. They had an amazingly off beat sound and a great vocalist. Morphine formed in 1989 they never got huge acclaim but they do warrant an occasional nod for what they were able to accomplish. On July 3, 1999, Mark Sandman collapsed while performing onstage in Rome. He was soon pronounced dead of a heart attack and Morphine immediately disbanded.
Together for 10 years but not a whole lot of acclaim. Its what I’m listening to now, check out “Buena” a nice sexy bassy sound
