More Thoughts About The New Bright Eyes Album -by Iman Lababedi

1. “JejuneStars” is all that. No, it isn’t “June On The West Coast” but that’s the worst thing you can say about it. Song of the year (so far)
2. That bloke doing the speaking? Sounds like Dr. Phil on acid.
3. “Firewall” is lame in ways “Cassadega” wasn’t because “Firewall” doesn’t work as a song and
Cassadega” did.
4. The song in the middle, “Shell Shock” is still awesome -a great hook repeated till it is stuck in your head.
5. Spotted throughout are the songs we know: “One For You, One For Me”, “Haile Salasie” and “A Machine Spiritual”
6. And then a number of songs that haven’t quite registered yet, though “Ladder Song ” sounds “First day Of My Life” draggy
7. I haven’t dealt in lyric or theme, because, I can’t be bothered deciphering what is obviously a digital take on hippie pacifism plus mystic garbage.
8. But here and there a phrases will jump out…. Like “it’s just so bizarre all the things I’m afraid of…”
9. “Trile Spiral” is great.
10. This is an excellent album.
