1. No Doubt – First time I had tix, I wasn't in the mood for the trip to what is now the Izod Center and the next time I had a tix, Nuzrat Ali Khan was playing Radio City Music Hall the same night and I went with him. Third time the charm? I hope so because Helen Bach tells of Gwen dropping to the floor and doing 10 one arm push ups!!!
2.The Bangles – No idea how I managed to miss these guys every opportunity I had to see em!
3. Biggie Smalls – Yeah but if he hadn't died and add 4. Nirvana and 5. 2Pac to that list.
4. Paul Kossoff and the rest of Free -I was too young to go with my brother to the Twisted Wheel in Manchester to see em.
5. The New York Dolls – Isn't that weird? No idea how I managed to never see em live. I've seen David loads of times.
6. Marvin Gaye – See #3 – 5
7. Genesis with Peter Gabriel and #8 Television with Richard Hell.
9. The Flaming Lips And #10 Brian Jonestown Experience -thereby ruining my hip credentials
And that's just off the top of my head and not reaching for the hall of Iman shame, Armstrongs and Presleys and Lennons! The good news hear is I just know I'll get round to three of the names here and add My Bloody Valentine to the list! And maybe Steve Leckie will bring back Viletones!!
I once wrote about bands I saw on their final tour (sometimes final nights of final tours) like Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Davy Jones and this is the corrollary. Unlike record albums, concerts are ephemeral, if you don't see em you won't see em. So far I've been to four Taylor Swift tours and when you go Red later this year, just think, the girl who toured behind Fearless is no longer around.
