Modern day Buddy Holly

It is worth mentioning on a Rock NYC day where we seem to be writing MOSTLY about Buddy Holly that another fave, Elvis Costello was dubbed Buddy Holly having a bad trip.

The physical resemblance between Holly and early Costello was absolutely intentional and My Aim Is True was country rock (Clover played back up). And if you can’t hear Holly on “Waiting for The End Of The World” I agree with you but if you can’t hear him on “Sneaky Feelings” or “(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes” you weren’t listening hard enough.

Of course as soon as Steve Nieve joined and the keybs became the dominant instrument the comparisons kinda disappeared. With This Year’s Model, Mike Nessing was quite right to make the 1965 Rolling Stones comparison, it was over.

But there at the beginning: Costello was a modern day Buddy Holly.
