‘Til I Am Dust – Mick Rhodes – Since I’m on a new wave kick today, and since my Californian buddy Mick noted I hadn’t actually reviewed his album, I figured a) I would hand it off to Alyson for a review, while b) mentioning how much I love most of it. When Mick is at his poppiests I love him most, the pure pop for now people “Rainbow”, the country flavored Byrds zoom shot “It’s Too Late” , and just about perfect Replacements cover are all perfect. Where I leave off is the bluesy rootsy stuff like “Sapulpa”. Grade: B+
Sundancer – The Fumes – The great Australian blues, rock duo are great at rock and less great at blues. Sure, that’s my own prejudice at work but even so, when you are working form uber alles you either are the best or you don’t. What is great on Sundancer is excellent, a country flavored rock anchored by one of rocks great unknown vocalist. The blues numbers on this Australian release are superb bottom heavy romps and better live. Try em on their myspace. Grade: A-
