Mick Jagger OK On SNL But Better With The Stones

So now it's all over, another look at Mick Jagger's SNL season finale takes these following truths to be self-evident.

1. Jagger is old but in pretty good nick for his age, there is no doubt he is fit enough for another world tour, even right this minute. As greatest rock and roll stars go, he is way way way up there, and still capable of bringing it.

1. Mick wasn't very funny, particularly naff as Steve Tyler, but neither was any one else.

2. "The Last Time" moves on its stomach: a Keith Richards riff, and if you can ring that clear, you can kill on the song, Win rings it true and William is better on bass. Incidentally, the red patches they were wearing was in support of the Quebec students who are protesting tuition hikes and some form of government control called Bill 78 meant to end student protests like this one.

3. "19th Nervous Breakdown" is Jagger's best performance of the night, but Foo Fighters think it is a straight up no chaser rocker when it is more than that. They steamroll Brian Jones brilliant guitar filler. The song sedues into "It's Only Rock And Roll" and the Foos perform this much better though Jagger's vocals, while enflamed, are enflamed on a worse song.

4. The Stones were blues fanatics when they started out and with the aid of ol' bottle neck Jeff Beck, they clobber a walking blues commentary on the upcoming Presidential election. "Romney says his prays," Jagger claims, "But don't let him cut your hair".

So whither Mick? Super heavy kinda sucked and no tour was forthcoming, and I guess the Stones are stilling working on next years tour, but after that? This would appear to be a way forward for Mick. Who wouldn't want to see Mick perform a night of blues classics with Beck on guitar?
