1. This Time – Pia Toscano – In Chris Wilman's excellent Reuters review, he notes that Jimmy Iovine's Interscope doesn't have a country division and the runner and first runner up winners of Idol this year are country to do. So Interscope found this dog by the chick who who wrote "S&M". Not bad, Pia sings her lungs out, but not much.

2. Can't You Hear My Heart Beat – Marianne Faithful – Off a terrific Live At The BBC album, Marianne rocks the Herman's Hermits hit. Wait for the "aaaah" near the end.

3. Shoplifters On The World Unite – The Smiths – Classic Morrissey. The stubborn dick should unite his band again.

4. Defying Gravity – Glee Cast – Defying or denying? – I never came within a mile of admiring any of the "Wicked" soundtrack and it is a testament to Colfer's enormous gifts with a song that his verse makes a boring, crappy song great.

5. Racing In The Street '78 – Bruce Springsteen – The harp at the start sounds like it jailbreaked outta "Thunder Road".

6. Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five – Wings

7. What Do I Get – The Buzzcocks – Live version from 1979. I caught them on this tour when the A Different Kind Of Tension tour hit nyc the year I moved here. Did the Fall open? Pretty great concert. Less so on  record.

8. Los Poderes – Rita Indiana Y Los Mysterios

10 .Folsom Prison Blues/That's Alright – Gram Parsons International Submarine Band – Harvard band birth country rock.
