MFT 2-1-12

1. You Make Me Wanna – Usher – Around the time Usher released this huge hit, he was well on his way to becoming what he claimed he most wanted to: the next Michael jackson. But the problem with being the next MJ is not black, it's white. Usher couldn't crossover all the way, he wasn't quite poppy enough and there was an edge of sexual intimidation with him.

2. Now You Jamming So – The Mighty Sparrow – Is there a greater calypso singer? I can't think of one. Here he lets the horns do the work for him.

3. On'N'On Ruined by Rick Rubin – Justice – Another European dance band get it right.

4. Police And Thieves – Junior Murvin

5. We'll Always Have Paris – Commander Venus – Oddly enough, it is actually more experimental, more out there, than Bright Eyes usually was.

6. Sad Man's Tongue – Volbeat – Perhaps Michael gets so close to Johnny because he starts from so far away,

7. Amen – Leonard Cohen – Seven minutes of whispering.

8. Bad Girls – M.I.A. – Don't let the lame song name bother you, everything from the sample to the synth, from the beat to the chant sing is brilliant.

9. Strawberry Fields Forever (Demo Sequence) – The Beatles – heightens your ear to Lennon's distracted vocal.

10. Goodbye (Hair) – Pissed Jeans – Starts with feedback and goes down hill from there.
