1. Ka Kakani Ka'illi Aloha – Gabby Pahinui – What's with the "ka" in Hawaiian ? It means "the" which makes Gabby ka greatest in my books. This is a lilting folk ballad though not as you'd understand it, playing over the titles to "The Descendants" it implies a sort of descent into the real world.

2.Snowed In At Wheeler – Kate Bush – That's Elton John singing with Kate and they are both in uber-Goth mode. Elton sounds in great form.

3. All The Shine – Childish Gambino – It's not that Childish is better than worse than any other rapper, it is that he is inauthentic and it shows.

4. All I Want For Christmas Is A Cowboy –  Lindi Ortega – This is about as good as a new Christmas song gets, a funny fiddley fly by.

5. IDGAF – Breathe Carolina

6. You Da One – Rihanna – More Trinidadian than you can imagine, she is both involved and distanced on this excellent pop song.

7. Smart – Girl In A Coma – In which they live up to their Smiths moniker.

8. Over My Dead Body – Drake -He was already a star, here he becomes a contender.

9. Runaway – Silverstein – "Groupies stay on the grind…" is great  and so is "every laminate comes with expectations from that band you’re with."

10. Ours – Taylor Swift – And so is "people throw rocks at things that shine".
