1. I Heard It Through The Grapevine – Smokey Robinson – Gaye's original is so indelibly, Dave Marsh claimed it's the greatest single of all time, that Smokey's version has been back burnered. It isn't a perfect match, it needs (or maybe we are so used to it) a deeper voice. But, hey, it's the Miracles in their prime years, it ain't that bad.
2. A Real Hero – College, Electric Youth – Rides a bass lick all the way to the Outkast quote.
3. Under Your Spell – Desire – Second dance song off the soundtrack to "Drive". Really good -Afrobeta should cover it.
4. Let Them All Talk (Demo) – Elvis Costello And The Attractions – It is very nearly there and you can feel him getting the riff perfected on acoustic guitar. And he doesn't have the end.
5. Loca People – Sak Noel – Pure dance remix with a Spanish accent. # 1 in the UK. Reminds me a little of Pitbull.
6. Wig In A Box – Heidi And The Angry Inch – knock out ballad. Of all the things that made the musical great, the music was first.
7. Some Girls Are Biggen Than Others – The Smiths
8. Shw Walks The Night – Matthew Sweet – When he was a genius guitarist making power pop, when he moved to orchestrated pop and folk, I lost interest. This is 1960's Byrdsy plus that guitar. And I like it.
9. Tallymark – Portland Cello Project – A friend of mine worships Thao, who sings lead behind the cellos on this lovely track. She might be on to something. "You can't build cathedrals out of finger steeple
10. You Can Count On Me – Panda Bear
