With all the will in the world, sometimes you just miss a band. Maximum Balloon is Dave Sitek of TV On The Radio and “Groove Me” is a seriously enormous disco blast of sound.
The rhythm percolates (yeah, but this time it really does) like water bubbling over and this bloke Theophilus London is a hio young Brooklyn rapper, apparently part of a new urban pop movement according to Fader (who I must steal off on a much more consistent basis) (and I bet that includes Solange. Right?). For some reason the balloon pics of Sitek bothered me and though I love TV On The Radio, I didn’t bother with em.
The song is a pure disco groove but like tres now. Absolutely fabulous. Incidentally, a sister song to “Fuck You” to my mind: both are songs first only “Groove Me” is a dance song first.
