Mash Up In Heaven: Cobain And MJ In Heaven by Alyson Camus

I have a mixed feeling when it comes to mash-ups, they can be funny, original, but, most of the time they destroy the music. Would you accept to mix two books of different authors or even two different paintings? I suppose it works better with music, unless you are a big fan of one of the artist who is mashed-up. Then it becomes a sacrilege, a blasphemous move and you don’t even want to listen to it, most of the time it’s just painful.
‘Smells like Rockin Robin’ seems to be just on time for Michael Jackson’s birthday that was just yesterday. The craziness of this mash-up is of course the unexpected assemblage of these two very different songs sung by two dead icons in the opposite poles of the music world, because, yeah, when you listen to ‘Smell like teen Spirit’, you automatically think about The Jackson 5.

Curiously, in a certain way, it works, if you want to forget about the depressive tone of the Nirvana song, but the result is more Jackson than Nirvana, and ‘Smells like teen spirit’ becomes cheerful, joyous and seems sped up.
