Bob Dylan had an uncomforting voice back in the day, like sand and glue as David Bowie once put it, and the world didn’t want to hear so it took Roger McGuinn from the Byrds and Peter, Paul and Mary to sweeten Dylan up for a mainstream audience. The Mary, Mary Travers, died of lukemia yesterday at the age of 72 years old.
Graduating from the early 60s Village folk scene, Peter, Paul and Mary were a lovely sounding group as at home with children’s songs like “Puff The Magic Dragon” (considered code for potsmoking at the time) as protest songs like “Blowing In The Wind”.
Though the folk band disbanded in 1971, they would reunite all the time and were always a delight to see live. Mary travers was a wonderful womnan.
