I missed Marla Mase -the performance art rocker of the decade, when she played Summerstage on Saturday because I was seeing Kris Kristofferson and if Marla had been in Central Park instead of Brooklyn, I might well have blown off Kris to see her.
For some weird reason, I keep on missing the great artist and have yet to see her live but that run of back luck is gonna end Sunday. Sunday afternoon I am gonna see Femi Kuti and when that is over (I am gonna leave just a little early), I am gonna dash down to Arlene’s Grocery (just off Ludlow Street) -one of the best rooms in the city by the way, and catch Marla’s 815pm show.
I would be excited any way but this is a benefit for StudioSamuel.org, which we have written about before here. Take it Marla:
“StudioSamuel.org is a wonderful org that empowers girls living in orphanages in Ethiopia through education, skills training and allowing them be part of the solution – Breaking their Poverty Cycle – with Dignity —
I will be performing at their upcoming benefit concert along with The Tomás Doncker Band (Tomas Doncker Josh David Barrett and Michael J Faulkner) at 8:15
Doors open at 5:30 — come early, shop StudioSamuel, beautiful jewelry made by the girls, dresses, scarves, etc.
There will be two other acts as well:
6pm Chris Moore
7pm The Loose Canyons
Suggested Donation: $10 plus a toothbrush/toothpaste
100% of proceeds go to StudioSamuel”
So get your piece of peace on and see you there! Don’t forget your toothbrush
