Magpie and Hel Do SNL : Paul McCartney

Well then, here we are again with Sir Paul.  This time for SNL's holiday show, this time I am not watching with my fabulous co-editor but writer Mary Magpie.  She is 30 years my junior but may well know more about 'Beatles' trivia than I ever cared to.

McCartney has been chilling in New York for awhile having just come of the infamous (and very well received) 12/12/12 concert.  He stepped in to Kurt Cobain Chuck Taylors, he did great for a geezer.

As a resident of Connecticut and fully aware of the tragic massacre that occurred at our local elementary school you cant help but wonder what or if SNL would acknowledge this and the children choir rendition of "Silent Night" was perfect.Any more would have come across as contrived. They paid soft tribute and went right in to Martin Shorts obnoxious brand of humor..yeah.  Not so sure who felt it was good for him to sing with Paul Shaffer but hey, its the holidays let it slide.

Anyway, McCartney is a legend.  Hes a well oiled well maintained classic car that still blows away the whippersnappers.  The problem here is he is squished on to Saturday Night Lives stage of horror.  As I write this intro I cant help but wonder if he will be joined by Kris and Dave tonight- I hope not.  I want a rousing edition of "Wonderful Christmas Time", this is after all the SNL holiday show.

Lets see what we get…
First off donned in a bright red jacket gave a nice sassy flair to the performance. Sitting behind a nice gand piano and a lovely little orchestra "My Valentine" sounded so peaceful and pretty that I cant even complain.  Is this Paul as mature rock God?  This is by far the sweetest McCartney I have ever seen.  It seems so very simple and calm that its a perfect interlude in a rather horrid holiday show. (seriously where is this years 'Dick In a Box'?), but with solemn world events, this was a wonderful choice.

As for the Magpie "The classical guitarist is impressive. The performance is nothing short of 'elegance'.  He still got it, he's still 'swagtastic' and its classy amongst the trashy."
