If you have been going to MSG for the past coupla years, you'll have enjoyed some of the most irritating renovations known to man as they fail to drop their prices by a red cent for the inconvenience. Well, according to the New York Post, on November 1st, the end of renovation opening day will afford you an exhibit called MSG366, while will have a pix representing a show at MSG for every day of the year.
If you can't wait, Madison Square Park (one of MSGs four homes) will have an exhibit of some of the greatest concerts on Thursday at 11am. Here is Larry Getlin of the posts list, followed by some I went to. PS: except for Arcade FireI didn't see any of Gatlin's. And AF were not all that.
1. The Rolling Stones’ first MSG concert: Nov. 27, 1969
2. Concert for Bangladesh: Aug. 1, 1971
3. Arcade Fire: Aug. 4, 2010
4. Bruce Springsteen’s first headlining MSG show: Aug. 21, 1978
5. Concert for New York City: Oct. 20, 2001
Now here is mine
1. David Bowie, 1980 – His next time round, Let's Dance will have dropped and Bowie would've become a major pop star. This was Bowie's last hurrah an artist. Also the first concert I ever saw at MSG
2. Bruce Springsteen – 2000 – Last night of the tour (it is documentated in a live recording, and with no new album to push, he went long, deep and was still performing that two song lead in to "10th Avenue Freezeout".
3. U2, 2001, In which barely a month after 9-11, U2 elevated us all.
4. Jay-Z, 2004 – His "Fade To Black" retirement gig, and if you wanna know why I think he is well past his prime, catch this prime Jay-Z gig.
5. Billy Joel, 2008 – The 12 Garden's gigs, I went four times and he was unbelievable. A career spanning, sprawl of a masterpiece.
