“You could never kiss a Tory boy without wanting to cut off your tongue again…” Ah, yeah, that’s our Garth alright on “The Sea Is A Good Place To Think About The Future” available for free on pitchfork.com. And before we’re through the first verse we get “she’s not eating again, she’s not eating again”. Guess she forgot what thosehands were for..
BUT my feelings about this song are th edefinition of ambivalent. Surely the whole point of Los Campesinos is happy songs about sad things and anyway, this song of suicide by drowning, is not the collegiate kid at heart Los camp we know and love. It is dour and doomy and beautiful and achieves a majectic depression but is this what I want from these guys?
Incidentally, there is another song, “There Is Listed Building” available fo streaming that is perfect LC with tons of “papa’s” in the background and even moments of dialogue which we haven’t heard in years. “Woe betide your listed heart” Garth warns.
All in all: the album is going to be huge.
