Lola And Jazz Mellor Talk Life After Daddy Joe Strummer

Ten years after Joe Strummer's devastating death at the age of 50, his daughters, Lola and Jazz, discussed their late papa and his legacy with the Guardian on July 27th, 2012.

For us Strummer fans it is as moving a look behind the curtain of his life as his wife Lucinda Mellor (not the mother) was in the Independent in 2007. Jazz was 18, Lola 16 when he died and they were both devastated. It took Jazz years for the loss to sink in, and she reacted with panic attacks, Lola went into an immediate depression. "But you get over it…" Lola claims. I was 16 when my own dad and I don't think it is one of those things you get over It is like a limp, it just is always there somewhere.

The recent for the interview is because the girls are working on a Strummerville off-shoot, the Strummer Of Love in a field in Somerset to celebrate what would have been Joe's 60th birthday.  The bonfires Joe began at Glastonbury and that have been continued every year. taken to their natural conclusion!

Also, Strummer is now Grandfather! Jazz gave birth to a baby girl last year!. Jazz told the Guardian: "Having a baby makes you rethink a lot of stuff, and I've been thinking about Dad a lot recently. He would have been obsessed with her. He was fantastic with kids. He loved them, he really did."

The daughters are also involved in tea dances? " In 2004, they started organising club nights in East London, at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club, kick-starting the trend for rock'n'roll tea dances." according to the Guardian's Lena Corner.
